Oceanic Gaming League: Now open!
Posted: Monday 16 August 2010 20:58:03 by Pure_Knight
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Original thread can be found here.

SageMist, the head owner of OGL; on behalf of the staff body would like to present the Oceanic Gaming League.

The Oceanic Gaming League was formed, as many of you know, from the joining of both the Mini-Games League and the Open DotA League. This sharing of resources will allow us to provide for a wider audience than previously. The league will be run in TWO separate channels by different staff teams. Each channel will be for a different type of league. These are, OGL-MiniGames in channel OGL1 (lead by Vindicated_) and OGL-DotA in channel OGL2 (lead by SkylineGTR). This way, you will be able to play any game you wish with ease in one place as well as be able to find new friends by widening the community to incorporate both Mini-Games and DotA!

Aims of the Oceanic Gaming League:
The Oceanic Gaming League has been created as a way to cater to all users of Bored Aussie and allow them access to an official stat-keeping league. This will mean that OGL will be an OPEN league, a system which will not require you to be vouched to start, or play, a game. We aim to provide everyone with a good gaming experience for all of their favourite maps, from the ever-popular DotA to PudgeWars and ShadowFiend Wars! By keeping stats, we can see who truly is one of the top players on BA!

Prizes:
The prizes have been decided upon and will be revealed in a couple of weeks time. However, I will divulge that prizes will be given out for the leaders in OGL-DotA and OGL-MiniGames as well as the combined score within these leagues. Also, trust me when I say these prizes are definitely worth playing for!

How to join:
Simply join either channel /j OGL1 for MiniGames and /j OGL2 for DotA. Once there, all you need to do is -sign into any game! If there are no games up, just create one! Simply -startgame to create a new game. Type -modes for a list of which ones are available. Once a game has started, OGL-GHost will automatically host the game, simply join it to start playing!

Experience System:
The stat keeping system will shared between both leagues. This means that any stats gained in either OGL-MiniGames or OGL-DotA will contribute to your total, overall experience. However, a record is kept for which division you were playing in. It is recommended that you play in BOTH leagues to maximise your chances to win a prize!

Most commands are currently being adapted to suit this new experience system. Visit Channel Commands for more commands.

Do not fear, stats will be scaled according to which division you play in. For instance, a game of DotA will give you more experience than a mini-game.

Game Modes:
See General Information - Mini-Games or General Information - DotA.

Ground Rules:
OGL will not tolerate multi-accounting. If you have been found to be playing on multiple accounts or in some way, evading our justice system, you will be BANNED from OGL indefinitely.

Common sense and a basic decency would be greatly appreciated. This means that you should not harass staff or other players, flame, spam the channels/bots and the like.
Discretionary punishments may also be handed out by OGL Staff.

More Information:

Credits:
OGL would like to thank several people for their contributions to OGL:
  • SageMist & Unchosen for providing the league bots.
  • Phoenicks for the prizes.
  • sgtnoobkiller for assistance in editing the maps for OGL-MiniGames.
  • K-Styler for the OGL banners.
  • The BA Staff body for allowing us the permission to use hosting bots.
  • The general OGL community for making this possible.

Disconnecting on the BA Melee Ladder
Posted: Wednesday 30 June 2010 17:28:18 by Mr_Zain
It has come to my attention, through several alias accounts which I play on, that because there is not an active ladder on BA - that people feel they can do whatever they wish by way of disconnecting and abusing the PvPGN design.

This is a reminder that any form of ladder cheating (including this plug pulling behaviour) is a banable offence and you will face the same punishment and discretion of administrative staff as a maphacker or custom kicker.

We will be updating the way melee works on BA in the not so distant future, until then, if you are going to participate on the BA ladder - do so properly... the person you're versing could be me.
